Overall, having a higher income affected how the respondents view quality of life on Long Island and higher income group respondents were more likely to look forward to visiting downtown areas once the pandemic is no longer a threat.

On vaccines –

  • 18% of respondents making $100K or more have been vaccinated, compared to 5% of those making less than $50K and 12% of those making $50K – $100K.
  • 67% of respondents making $100K or more plan on getting vaccinated, compared to 53% of those making less than $50K and 58% of those making $50K – $100K.

On downtowns –

  • 87% of respondents making $100K or more say Long Island’s quality of life is “Excellent” or “Good” compared to 78% of those making less than $50K and 81% of those making $50K – $100K.
  • 55% of respondents making $100K or more frequented downtowns at least once a week pre-pandemic, compared to 36% of those making less than $50K.
  • 76% of respondents making $100K or more think a vibrant downtown is very important to Long Island’s quality of life, the most of any income group.

Generally, the higher the income, the more concerned they are about the state of downtown businesses and their survivability during the pandemic.

  • Respondents with higher incomes were more opposed devoting more real estate to housing units in downtown areas.
  • Similarly, the 100K or more income group were less willing to consider living in a downtown area.
